HomeHow we collect, use and protect your personal information.
Nexus Financial Services Limited (trading as Nexus Credit) is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. We process personal data in accordance with the Data Protection Act of Zambia and the confidentiality duties that apply to financial services providers.
Last updated: September 2026
1. Information we collect
Identity and contact data: full name, NRC number, date of birth, gender where disclosed, physical and postal address, phone number and email address.
Financial and employment data: employer or business name, employment status, payroll or civil service number where applicable, net monthly income, bank and mobile money account details, existing obligations and repayment history.
Documents you upload: NRC, payslips, bank statements, proof of residence, PACRA and TPIN documents, vehicle white book or title deeds, and any other document you provide in support of an application.
Technical data: device and browser information, IP address and pages visited, collected to keep the service secure and working correctly.
2. Why we process your data and our lawful basis
To assess an application and take steps at your request before entering a contract: verification of identity, affordability assessment, credit scoring and approval decisions.
To perform the contract: disbursement, collection of repayments, deduction at source with your employer or payroll agency, statements and customer service.
To comply with legal obligations: anti-money-laundering and know-your-customer checks under the Financial Intelligence Centre Act, tax and record-keeping duties, and lawful requests from regulators, courts or law enforcement.
For our legitimate interests: preventing fraud, securing our systems, recovering debt and improving our products, balanced against your rights and freedoms.
With your consent: optional marketing about products and offers, which you can withdraw at any time without affecting any facility you already hold.
3. Automated processing and AI-assisted checks
Documents you upload may be processed by an automated model that summarises the document and flags missing or inconsistent details for our loan officers. The purpose is accuracy and speed, not automated rejection.
No approval, decline, credit limit or pricing decision is taken solely by automated means. An authorised loan officer reviews every decision, and you may request human review and an explanation of any decision that affects you.
4. Who we share data with
Employers and payroll agencies, strictly to confirm employment and net pay and to operate deduction at source where you have authorised it.
Licensed credit reference bureaus, banks, mobile money operators and payment processors, to verify information, disburse funds and collect repayments.
Regulators, the Financial Intelligence Centre, tax authorities, courts and law enforcement, where disclosure is required or permitted by law.
Service providers who host our systems, deliver messages or provide the automated document-review model, bound by contract to process data only on our instructions and to keep it confidential.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with unrelated third parties for their own marketing.
5. International transfers
Some of our technology providers process data on servers outside Zambia. Where that happens we require appropriate safeguards, including contractual confidentiality and security obligations, and we transfer only the data necessary for the service concerned.
6. Security
Data in transit is protected with 256-bit transport encryption. Uploaded documents are held in restricted, non-public storage and are accessible only to authorised Nexus Credit staff for the purpose of assessing and administering your facility.
Access to customer files is role-restricted, logged and reviewed. Staff are trained on confidentiality and are subject to disciplinary and criminal consequences for misuse of customer information.
Nexus Credit will never ask for your password, one-time password or portal details, and will never ask you to send money or documents to a personal phone number or personal account.
7. How long we keep data
Where a facility is advanced, we retain your records for the period required by Zambian financial and anti-money-laundering law after the facility is closed, currently not less than ten years.
Where an application is declined or abandoned, we retain a limited record for fraud prevention and regulatory purposes and delete supporting documents once they are no longer required.
8. Your rights
You may request access to the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data, request erasure where we have no lawful basis to keep it, object to or restrict certain processing, withdraw consent to marketing, and request a human review of an assisted decision.
